With the latest release of macOS Sierra and the new IOS 10, there is support for Apple Pay to make purchases on the web using Safari. This provides Apple users a web-based alternative payment option from traditional players like PayPal.
Apple Pay on a Mac will require users to use an iPhone with Touch ID and Apple Pay support or an Apple Watch. The payment will be authenticated through the iPhone or Apple Watch. Apple Pay on the web will require merchants to adopt Apple Pay. It is early and merchants are just now starting to roll it out. Initial merchant sites include Time Inc., Wayfair, and of course Apple’s own online Apple Store. Early adopter payment processors include Big Commerce, Shopify, Stripe and Squarespace.
